KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced its first Track and Field Athletes of the Week and Indiana Tech's
Carly Schmidt and
John Broaden took home women's field and men's track honors.
Schmidt, a freshman from Lake Forest, Ill., recorded an NAIA Automatic Qualifying standard and broke the indoor school record in the pole vault by 10" when she cleared 3.94m (12-11) to tie for second at the NCAA Division II GVSU (Mich.) Mike Lints Open. Her height is also the best in the NAIA to date.
Broaden, a junior from Indianapolis, Ind., won three-of-four events he raced in at the Mike Lints Open, recording NAIA Automatic Qualifying times in each race. He won both the 60-meter and 200-meter with times of 6.88 and 21.52, respectively, with the latter mark tops in the NAIA to date. He was also the final leg of the winning 4x400m relay team who was just .49 seconds behind the fastest NAIA time this season.
The Warriors are back in action this weekend at the SVSU Doug Hansen Open on Friday, Jan. 23 and the Defiance College Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 24.
