GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Indiana Tech women's track and field team got their first national champion and crowned another All-American on the second day of competition at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium and Gulf Shore Sports Complex on Friday.

A pair of freshman pole vaulters stole the show for the women on the second day as
Carly Schmidt took home the hardware with a jump of 3.85m (12-7.50) while her teammate,
Lindsey Sechrist, earned her first career All-American award with a fourth place finish after clearing 3.70m (12-1.50). Â Schmidt's jump is the second best mark in program history while Sechrist's height is tied for sixth.

On the track,
Shayla France and
Andrea Ford got the day off to a good start in the 100m hurdles as both athletes qualified for Saturday's final. France qualified second with a time of 13.77 while Ford enters with the sixth-best trail time of 14.24.

France was also the top performer for the Warriors in the 200m as she qualified fifth with a time of 24.21. She will be joined in the final by
Patricia Thompson and
Jewel Thomas who ran 24.31 and 24.38, respectively. Sophomore
Brianna Woods just missed qualifying for the finals with a time of 24.39.

Thomas was the top performer for the Warriors in the 100m, qualifying fourth in 11.88 while
Patricia Thompson took the eighth spot in 12.06, just .01 seconds ahead of Woods who again just missed qualifying for finals.

Cherie Gaines took the final spot in the 800m, finishing with a school record time of 2:10.54. In the 3,000m steeplechase,
Kerigan Riley had a strong finish to her heat to qualify eighth with a time of 11:04.74 while
Laura Condron will join her teammate, qualifying 14th with a time of 11:16.53.

The Warriors continue their quest for their third consecutive NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship on Saturday, May 23 as they wrap up the outdoor competition with
Laura Condron and
Kerigan Riley running in the 3,000m steeplechase at 2 p.m.
