YANTON, S.D. – Women's track and field cruised to their second title in program history, racking up a total of 111 points in the 41st annual NAIA Women's Indoor Track & Field Nation Championship at Ruth Donohoe Fieldhouse on the campus of Mount Marty (S.D.) Friday.
The Warriors never trailed in the national meet, kicking off the day with
Loanie Cellard winning the 3000-meter racewalk in 14:33.43.
Leondra Correia led the Warriors by scoring 38 points in the national meet, where she was named to the Outstanding Performer and Most Valuable Performer awards. She took first place in the pentathlon on Wednesday with a total of 3743 points for a new program record and personal best.
Correia also captured a pair of national titles on Friday, clearing the height of 1.70 meters (5 feet, 7 inches) in the high jump for another personal best. She later earned her second title in three years in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.62 seconds.
Correia was also fifth in the long jump (5.68 meters – 18 feet, 7.75 inches) and sixth in the triple jump (11.70 meters – 38 feet, 4.75 inches).
Destiny Copeland claimed second in the long jump with a distance of 5.98-meters while
Katlyn Jones finished fifth (5.64m), a new personal best,
Carlie Turner finished in seventh (5.61m) and
Mariam Davis earned 14
th with 5.10-meters.
Erica Xayarath also placed in the high jump at 12
th with 1.56-meters.
Jones finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with 8.84 seconds while
Xuxa Peart claimed fifth in the 400-meters in 56.60-seconds, for a new personal best, and
Destinee McGrady was right behind her in sixth in 57.48-seconds.
Sha'Londa Terry finished the 60-meter dash in eighth with a time of 7.77-seconds before
Copeland earned second in the triple jump with 12.03-meters.
Jones finished 15
th in the triple jump with 11.07-meters.
Derica Gibson led the Warriors in the 200-meter dash taking third in 24.85 seconds while
Soyinne Greynion earned sixth in 24.92-seconds for a new personal record with
Terry taking seventh in 25.01-seconds.
A team comprised of
Peart, Antonishka Deveaux, Brianna Tillman and
McGrady combined for a third-place finish in the 4x400 relay in 3:50.80.
The Warriors had three other placers in the pentathlon with
Copeland claiming fourth with 3439 points for a personal best,
Renique Smith earning fifth with 3316 points, and
Jones finishing in 12
th with 3071 points.
