SOUTH BEND, Ind. --
Lisa Voyles continued her assault on the Indiana Tech track and field record books on Saturday when she traveled to the prestigious Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame and became the first Warrior to ever break 2:10 in an indoor 800. Her mark of 2:09.83 in a field consisting almost entirely of NCAA Division I runners topped her own school record of 2:11.96, set last February.
It marks the fourth time Voyles has dipped under 2:10 in an 800. She accomplished the feat three times last outdoor season on her way to the national championship in the event. Voyles currently ranks 2nd in the nation in the 800.
Voyles was the only student-athlete to compete at Notre Dame, though the team did send a small contingent to the IWU Midwest Classic in Marion.
Juanita Webster-Freeman highlighted the day with a win in the shot put. Her throw of 13.49m not only secured an NAIA "A" standard, but moved her into the #2 spot on the all-time Indiana Tech list. The record (13.93m) was set in 2016 by Jordan Irvin.
Mason Murphy earned an NAIA "B" mark with a weight throw of 16.63m. This improves his all-time #4 mark and moves him just one centimeter (.01m) short of the #3 mark.
Stephanie Vargovich threw a PR of 11.26m in the shot put and
Savannah Emaus finished fourth in the pole vault at 3.72m.
The men's pole vault triumvirate of
Noah Schultz,
Drennan Sorrell, and
Victor Rodriguez tied at 4.35m.
Next up is a trip to Allendale, Michigan next Friday for the GVSU Big Meet.
