MUNCIE, Ind. -- With this week's rise in temperatures, the Indiana Tech track and field team saw a drop in times on Saturday as over a dozen athletes saw their tickets punched to the NAIA national championship meet.
As is usually the case, sprinters responded well to the warm weather, chalking up impressive times that not only put them on the national list, but etch their names into the Indiana Tech all-time top ten.
Highlights:
- The men's 4x100 team of David Slick, Michael Warner, Parrish Smith, and Esau Haynes ran 40.26 to jump into the #1 mark in the nation. It's also the #8 mark in school history.
- Tech sprinters earned two A's and two B's in the men's 100m. Esau Haynes went #6 all-time in 10.37, Michael Warner moved to #7 all-time in 10.42, Parrish Smith ran 10.58, and Kamari Rush was right behind in 10.59.
- Javon Sanders (14.41) and Ahumad Williams (14.59) hit "A" in the 110 hurdles.
- Kiya Pogue got the "A" standard in the 100h in 14.07.
- Miles Gray earned an "A" in a PR of 47.59 to win the men's 400m. He led a pack of four Warriors under 50.
- Soyinne Grenyion captured the women's 400m "A" standard in 56.72! Six other women finished under 59 for Indiana Tech.
- Jamaya Warthen went 11.66 in the 100m to earn the "A" standard and go #8 all-time at Indiana Tech. Taylor Kyle also ran 11.95 to earn a "B".
- Collins Mokuah (53.58) and Diego Sekiyama-Nava (53.70) picked up the "A" in the 400 hurdles while Javon Sanders was just off the "B" in 54.64.
- Joshua Ballard (6.99m) and Jaelan Stewart (6.86m) went 1-2 in the men's long jump.
- Indiana Tech went 1-2-3-4 in the men's 200m with Michael Warner leading the way in an "A" standard time of 21.29. That's a new #9 all-time mark.
- Jamaya Warthen got the "A" standard in the 200m in 24.02. That's the new #6 all-time mark at Indiana Tech.
- Lisa Voyles cruised to a win in 2:10.41 in the 800m. Krista Boese PR'd and went #9 all-time in 2:18.26 and McKenna Palmer also got an outdoor PR in 2:25.10.
- Carlie Turner took 1st place in the long jump in 5.63m.
- Dylan Banda earned PR's in the 1500m, 400m, and then had the fastest time on the "C" 4x400 relay team.
- Shomari Somerville jumped to an "A" standard in the triple at 14.61m on his way to a meet win.
- Both 4x400 teams got "A" standards to close out the meet. The men's team of Miles Gray, Aaron Heisser, Idriss Bayiha, and Victor Centeio ran 3:14.08 while the women's squad of Kayla Moody, Kennia Dexter, Junae Bennett, and Jo'Deci Irby ran 3:49.50.
The Warriors will stay local this coming week to participate in the Little State Championships at Indiana Wesleyan. The meets starts on Friday and concludes on Saturday.
