ALLENDALE, Mich. – A quick trip to Michigan on Friday saw seven more NAIA "A" standards collected by Indiana Tech student-athletes, securing automatic bids to March's NAIA Championships. From sprints to distance and even out to the throwing rings, the Warriors continued their impressive run through the indoor track & field season.
A handful of athletes, mainly jumps, also competed at the IUPUI Invitational on Friday.
Kayla Moody cracked the 57 second barrier for the first time in the women's 400m, running 56.91 and bumping her existing "B" standard to an "A". Her mark moves her to #16 on the all-time list. She'll be joined at nationals by
Junae Bennett, who also got the "A" standard in a PR of 57.52.
Freshman
Giulio Romano knocked nearly seven seconds off his mile from last week, turning in the #2 all-time mark at Indiana Tech in 4:13.61. His effort not only set a freshman record, but also earned him an "A" standard.
Braden Crosby bumped his "B" to an "A" in the 400m in a PR of 48.43. His mark moved him to #14 on the all-time quarter mile list.
Additional Highlights:
- Lisa Voyles was just .2 off her own school record in the mile, earning an "A" standard in 4:50.44. Teammate Krista Boese improved her all-time #4 mark in the event with another "A" standard in 5:04.76.
- Jamaya Warthen (24.35), Soyinne Grenyion (24.48), and Derica Gibson (24.92) cruised to a 1-2-3 finish in the women's 200m.
- Katlyn Jones won the 60 hurdles in 8.73.
- The women's 4x400 team of Jo'Deci Irby, Kayla Moody, Aaliyah Frederick, and Junae Bennett got the win in 3:53.97.
- Esau Haynes got a season best in the 60 hurdles in 6.75. David Slick also moved into the all-time top 20 in the event with a PR and "B" standard of 6.86.
- David Slick also narrowly missed the "B" in the 200m in a PR of 21.85, also an all-time top 20 mark. Kamari Rush collected a PR in the 200m in 22.19.
- Ngor Agwick jumped all the way to #12 all-time in the men's 800m in a PR of 1:56.80. Korey Allen (1:57.31) and Juan Caballero (1:58.19) also had nice runs that saw them move into the top 20 in the event.
- The 4x400 team of Aaron Heisser, Braden Crosby, Collins Mokuah, and Ngor Agwick ran a 3:20.61 to win.
- Mason Murphy improved his existing all-time #2 mark in the weight throw to 17.91m (58'9.25") to swap his "B" for an "A" standard.
- Christian Dixon got a PR and all-time #10 mark in the shot put in 14.68m.
Next on the schedule for the Warriors is the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame and the Jud Logan Light Giver open at Ashland.
