Edgar also has a sprints, hurdles and relays certificate from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Before coming to Indiana Tech, Edgar started his coaching career at Concordia Lutheran High School. He spent the next three seasons at Muncie South High School as the cross country and track coach. In his athletic career, Edgar was a three-time All-State runner at Concordia Lutheran High School. He still owns the school record as part of the sprint medley and 4x400 relay teams. Edgar was also a two-time qualifier as part of the 3200 meter relay team. He went on to attend Anderson University (Ind.) where he was a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) champion as part of the 4x400 meter relay and individually was runner-up in the open 400.
