@INTechTennis Men Split Weekend Matches

RECORD: Indiana Tech (8-2, 2-0 WHAC), Cornerstone (16-4, 1-2 WHAC), #RV Cardinal Stritch (0-0)
LOCATION: Grand Rapids, Mich. (Northpointe Christian High School)/Milwaukee, Wis.
 
BRIEF: The Indiana Tech men's tennis team won eight consecutive matches against Cornerstone to remain perfect in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, but suffered their first NAIA loss to Cardinal Stritch on Sunday. The Wolves are receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches Poll and the Warriors forced several ranked opponents into extra sets and tiebreaks.
 
FLOW:
SATURDAY v. CU
Ferrando and Aguirre made quick work of the Golden Eagles' No. 1 doubles tandem of Elijah Yi and Austin Hunt, 8-3, with Kino De Leon and Gaston Raposo making it a 2-0 Warriors advantage with a 8-6 win over Santiago Mackrey and Andrew Son. At the No. 2 position, Mikel Oscoz and Fernando Sousa had to win an extra set to get past Samuel Ottosen and Austin Hendrick, 9-7.
 
With a 3-0 lead, Tech needed just two more wins to seal the match victory and Sousa made quick work of Ottosen at No. 2 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2 and Ferrando sealed the victory with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Yi at the top spot.
 
The Orange and Black got three more wins from Nickolas Tripanon (6-3, 6-0), Oscoz (2-6, 6-4, 10-7) and Aguirre (6-4, 6-2) while CU got their lone win at No. 5 singles, a 6-4, 6-4 win.
 
SUNDAY v. CSU
The Wolves took the early lead in doubles action, winning at the No. 3 position, 8-3, but the Warriors nearly got a point at No. 2 doubles as Mikel Oscoz and Fernando Sousa nearly took down George Watson and Abel DaCosta, falling 8-6. At the No. 1 slot, the undefeated duo of Joaquin Ferrando and Nicholas Aguirre fell to the East regions' 10th-ranked pair of Ray Weich and Fabio Perasso, 8-4.
 
In singles play, CSU won the match with wins at No. 6, No. 2 and No. 5 but it's what happened at No. 1 and No. 4 singles that were the story. Ferrando, who is ranked 15th in the East fell to Fabio Perasso, who is ranked 44th nationally, losing in a superset in game three, 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-4). The Warriors got their lone win at the fourth position as Aguirre bested Weich, 7-6, 6-3.
 
IN THE NUMBERS:
Aguirre and Ferrando suffered their first doubles loss of the season and are now 5-1…Aguirre improved to 7-1 in singles action…Ferrando suffered his first singles loss, falling to 8-1 but is 1-1 against nationally and regionally ranked opponents…Tech as a team is 36-22 in singles and 16-12 in doubles play
 
UP NEXT: Today's match against Taylor has been postponed due to weather. The Warriors will return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 14 when they host seventh-ranked UNOH at Swinney Park. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
