SCORE:Â IT 1, DU 0
RECORDS: Indiana Tech (32-26), No. 5 Davenport (47-9)
LOCATION: Adrian, Mich. (SHU Baseball Stadium)
Â
BRIEF: The fourth-seeded Indiana Tech baseball team got a walk-off win over the NAIA's fifth-ranked Panthers of Davenport, 1-0. Senior
Clay Wallace pitched his best game of the season to-date, shutting out DU for the first time in 2015 while
Tighe Koehring drove in the game-winning run with a fielder's choice to second, plating
Dezmon Nunn to force a winner-take-all contest on Thursday, May 6 at 12 p.m.
Â
FLOW:The tension could be felt from the first pitch and both teams stranded a runner in the first and DU left another in the second. The Warriors had a prime scoring chance in the second as a fielding error put the leadoff hitter,
Matt Bandor, on third. A pair of walks loaded the bases with none out, but the Warriors couldn't push the run across, stranding three more.
Â
Wallace countered the Panthers momentum with a 1-2-3 third, but Tech stranded two more. The Warriors right-hander induced an inning ending double play in the fourth and the Orange and Black again loaded the bases, this time with two outs, but again couldn't score.
Â
Both teams went down in order in the fifth and sixth while Wallace worked around an error in the seventh to keep it scoreless. A Nunn single,
Romer Portes intentional walk and Koehring single loaded the bases again, this time with one out, and again Tech failed to score.
Â
The Panthers got a leadoff single in the eighth, but Hakes picked him off and after a pair of two-out base runners, Wallace induced a groundout off the bat of WHAC Player of the Year Brendan Bender to end the inning.
Â
A two-out triple gave the Panthers their best scoring chance of the game, but Wallace again came up big with his sixth strikeout of the game setting up the ninth inning fireworks.
Â
Nunn singled and advanced to second on a balk before Portes was again intentionally walked with one out. Koehring stepped to the plate and ground the ball to second and the throw skipped away from the shortstop covering second allowing Nunn to score the winning run.
Â
