Warriors Win Doubleheader at Lindsey Wilson Classic

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team picked up a pair of victories at the Lindsey Wilson Classic on Thursday, defeating Campbellsville (Ky.), 30-28, 25-19, 25-23, and Point Park (Pa.), 25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 25-18.

In their first match of the day, the Warriors were in a back and forth battle for the first set, with 20 ties and 17 lead changes. Tech was finally able to close the door after a kill from Jazmin Alexander tied it up at 28. Two points later, a block from Cassie Sarabia and Gabby Staggs clinched the first set.

The second set saw the Warriors jump ahead 9-5 and they kept their foot on the gas pedal, stretching their lead to 18-10 and controlling the whole set. In the decisive set, the Orange and Black again found themselves in a battle. Following another kill from Alexander that gave Tech a 12-9 lead, the Warriors went on an 8-2 run to put the Tigers on the brink. After Campbellsville battled back to make it 22-20, Alexander got another kill to put the Warriors back in the drivers seat and close out the match.

Sarabia finished with 12 kills while Alexander and Staggs combined for 18. Taylor Kelso notched double-digit digs (12) and Mara Zell dished out 17 assists. Staggs led all Warriors with seven total blocks.

In the second match, the Warriors dominated once again, hitting over .269 in their three wins and dominating at the net with 22 blocks, double the Pioneers total. After not trailing in the first set, the Orange and Black found themselves down 3-2 before racking up eight straight points and forcing Point Park to call timeout. Behind a game-high 14 kills from Sarabia and 12 from senior Katelyn St. Martin, Tech was able to go up 2-0.

After dropping the third set and the chance for their second sweep, the Warriors found their groove again in the fourth. After being tied at 12, coach Kourtney Wilson's squad went on a 4-0 run to take control and close out their second victory on the day.

Karli Jones dished out 27 assists and Taylor Kelso continued to scoop up the digs with 24 more.

The Warriors return to the court tomorrow for the second day of the Lindsey Wilson Classic. The Orange and Black take on Bethel (Tenn.) and Asbury (Ky.) at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively. Live stats can be found on IndianaTechWarriors.com.
