DEARBORN, Mich. – The 20
th-ranked Indiana Tech men's basketball team fell to Michigan-Dearborn, 66-62, on Tuesday evening in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
CJ Bussey scored a team-high 17 points on 6-11 shooting and grabbed five rebounds.
Lavonte Davis added 13 points, a team-high seven rebounds and two blocks while
Miles Robinson chipped in 13 points, five rebounds and four assists.
The Wolverines would jump out to an 11-6 lead in the first five minutes of the game, but a quick five points from Robinson would tie the game at 11 with 13:24 to go in the first half and sparked a 9-0 run by the visitors to retake the lead.
UM-Dearborn though, would quickly answer back to tie it up and the two sides would battle back and forth for a 10 minute stretch. Bussey would then take over the last five and a half minutes of the half with 11 points as Tech used a 17-6 run over that stretch to head into halftime leading 42-32.
The hosts opened the second half on an 11-2 spurt to cut the Warrior lead to one just six and a half minutes into the final 20 minutes of regulation before tying the game up at 49 with 8:40 to go. UM-Dearborn would then take the lead just under a minute later and while Robinson tied the game back up on Tech's next possession, but the Wolverines would go on a 10-4 run to take a 61-55 lead with 3:17 to go.
A three-pointer from Davis would cut the deficit to three with 1:29 left on the clock and the senior knocked down a pair of free throws with 12 seconds to go to make it a one point game, but UM-Dearborn would make both free throws on their next possession and Bussey's game-tying three missed the mark with under five seconds to go and the Wolverines would finish their second top-20 upset in seven days.
Tech (5-2, 2-1 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday when they host crosstown rival and top-ranked Saint Francis. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
