ATHENS, Tenn. – The Indiana Tech baseball team opened the spring portion of its 2017 schedule on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Brescia, 16-0, in a seven inning game at Jack Bowling Field. The game was originally scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and nine innings, but rain in the morning pushed the game back and caused the cancellation of the Warriors second schedule game of the day against No. 4-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan.
Johnny Crawford dazzled in his 2017 debut, throwing four innings of one-hit ball and striking out eight batters. Joe Wolf would come on in relief for three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one batter. The Warriors offense was just as good as they collected 16 hits, three home runs and five doubles in the outburst.
Tech would get going early as
Keith Tatum drove in
Dante Biagini for the game's first run while
Matt Bandor doubled in
Tighe Koehring two batters latter to make it a 2-0 gam. The Warriors would get back at it in the second with five more runs as Tatum and Bandor both homered in the inning while
Glen McClain had an RBI double.
Charlie Sipe would smash the team's third homer of the day in the third while the Orange and Black would score in every inning but the fifth and seventh.
Tech (7-3) concludes its opening road trip of the spring on Sunday with a doubleheader (9/7 innings) against No. 4-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Jack Bowling Field.
