FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 24-ranked Indiana Tech baseball exploded for 46 runs in 14 innings on Friday afternoon to sweep Marygrove in their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and home opener, winning 33-8 in game one and 13-1 in game two, both in seven innings.
The Warriors started off game one with a bang as they pounded out 18 runs on 14 hits in the first inning, smashing five home runs in the inning while batting around twice.
Keith Tatum,
Charlie Sipe,
Glen McClain,
Peyton Newsom and
Shoma Sasaki all homered in the inning while McClain and Tatum would homer again in the fourth inning.
McClain would finish the game with 8 RBI's and went 4-4 at the plate while Tatum also went 4-4 while driving in 5 RBI's.
Tech would start off the night cap with another offensive outburst, this time scoring four runs in the second, with McClain clearing the bases with a double to left center to make it a 5-0 game.
Cody Kellar was efficient on the mound as he threw five innings of shutout ball and striking out six to improve 6-2 on the season.
Keith Tatum and
Rico Caravalho would each finish with two RBI's with the latter smashing a homer to left.
Tech (18-7, 8-3 WHAC) concludes their series with Marygrove Saturday with a single nine-inning game. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. from Warrior Field.
