Warriors Post Pair of Shutouts at Al Oliver Classic

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Indiana Tech baseball team went 2-0 on Saturday at the Al Oliver Classic, hosted by Shawnee State, defeating the host Bears, 1-0, before taking down Ohio Christian, 6-0, at Branch Rickey Park.

The Warriors would take advantage of a dropped fly by from the Bears in the top of the first to score the only run of the ballgame. Dante Biagini would reach second following the miscue in the outfield and would score in the next at-bat as Glen McClain singled to center to drive him in.

The lone run would be enough for Cody Kellar, who threw 6.2 scoreless innings for his fourth win of the season, allowing just two hits while striking out four. Jared Harvey would come in with two outs in the seventh and shut the door for his first save of the year.

In the second game of the day against the Trailblazers, the Orange and Black would again take advantage of mistakes in the field as Ohio Christian committed a pair of errors in the bottom of the first and Tech pushed a pair of runners across the plate to take a 2-0 lead.

Two more hits for the Warriors and another error from OCU would allow Kip McWilliams team to score two more runs and make it a 4-0 game. Tighe Koehring would drive in Biagini in the fourth and Shoma Sasaki in the sixth with a double to make it a 6-0 game and give Jason Sterrett and the bullpen plenty of room to work as they threw their second shutout of the day and fifth of the season.

Tech (13-4) returns to the diamond next weekend as they travel to Lawrenceville, Georgia for the Grizzly Spring Baseball Invitational, where they will take on No. 1-ranked and defending AVISTA-NAIA World Series champion Lewis-Clark State and No. 5-ranked Georgia Gwinnett.
