COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 22-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team split their final series of the weekend on Sunday to Lindsey Wilson College, falling 5-0 in game one and coming out on top 14-4 in game two, at Egnew Park.
In game one, Lindsey Wilson got things in motion in their half of the second inning with runners on the corners as a Warrior error sent the Blue Raiders first run home. A single to shallow center would draw two more runs in, helping to aid Lindsey Wilson to an eventual 4-0 lead after two. The Tech offense struggled to get going, with
Tighe Koehring going 1-2 with a double in the contest for the Warriors. Lindsey Wilson tacked on one more run in the fifth to grow their lead before eventually topping the Orange and Black 5-0.
Nate McBroom pitched six innings for Tech, allowing five runs, two earned, on 10 hits.
In game two, the Warrior offense surged early with a three spot in the opening half of the first. Koehring would bring home
Branson Dossen with a single to shallow right before
Ryan Meisenheimer doubled to deep center to bring two more Warriors in. Lindsey Wilson would answer back with a lone run in their half of the first, but it was a pair of back-to-back home runs from
Bobby Bennett and Dossen, respectively, that would put a two spot up in the second and increased the Tech lead to 5-2.
Tech would keep the long ball going into the third as
Kelvin Flores sent a two-run homer to right to put the Warriors ahead 7-2. The Orange and Black opened the fifth with a pair of fly outs, but a double from
Matt Bandor and a pair of walks would load the bases for pinch hitter
Taylor Nychyk. With two outs, Nychyk would clean the bases with a grand slam to right, advancing Tech ahead 11-4 after five. A pair of runs from a
Glen McClain triple and Koehring sacrifice fly would highlight the sixth before the Warriors would add a final score in the top of the seventh to redeem their earlier loss to the Blue Raiders with a 14-4 final.
Koehring would go 2-3 with 2 RBI's and McClain finished the contest 3-5 with one run driven in. Meisenheimer and Flores would both go 1-3 with two RBI's a piece.
Jason Sterrett would get the win for the Warriors after throwing five innings, allowing four runs, all earned, on eight hits and recording four strikeouts.
The Orange and Black (9-10) will return to action Saturday as they return to their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) slate in a road contest with the No. 18-ranked University of Northwestern Ohio at Racer Baseball Field in Lima, Ohio. Saturday's first pitch is set for 1 p.m. of the twin bill.
