Warriors Sweep Saints to Win WHAC Title, McWilliams Becomes All-Time Winningest Coach in Program History

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team accomplished a pair of historic feats Sunday afternoon at the SHU Baseball Diamond as they swept Siena Heights, 8-2, (conference game) and 10-4 (nonconference/seven innings) to win the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) regular season title for the first time since the 2012 season and clinched an automatic bid to the NAIA Opening Round.

11th-year head coach Kip McWilliams had the second feat of the day as he became the all-time winningest coach in program history with the second win of the day and the 391st of his career, to pass Lance Hershberger for the top spot in the record books.

Tech's big inning came in game one came in the third as they scored four runs to take a 5-0 lead over the Saints. Tighe Koehring led things off with an RBI double to drive home Dante Biagini and Reese Olden, while an error on a ground from Ryan Meisenheimer and a single from Bobby Bennett drove in the next two runs.

The five runs was plenty of offense for Brandon Hillier, who threw 7.1 innings of two-run ball, and Jared Harvey, who recorded the final five outs of the game, and the last two on strikeouts, to clinch the regular season conference title for the Warriors. Koehring went 4-5 at the dish while Meisenheimer was 3-5.

Game two saw the Warriors get out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth thanks to three singles, two walks and an RBI fielder's choice, with Daniel Johnson II, Alex Vydick and Jake Ritson recording RBI's. Siena Heights found their offense in the seventh as they scored four runs in the frame to tie the game up at 4-4 and send the game into extra innings, but Tech came right back in the eighth with six runs to take a 10-4 lead and complete the four-game sweep.

Brandon Burch, Taylor Nychyk, Johnson II and Ritson all finished the day with two RBI's while Charles Dunavan struck out five batters in three innings of work as the starter.

Tech (37-17, 24-4 WHAC) concludes the regular season Tuesday as they host Cleary University in a single nine-inning nonconference game. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. from Warrior Field.
