SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team ended its regular season road schedule Saturday afternoon at Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe and No. 23-ranked and conference champion Lawrence Technological University, where the Warriors fell in straight sets, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22) inside Don Ridler Field House.
Jordan Aylward had a match-high 11 kills and hit .375 while
Olivia Niekamp had 10 kills on a .304 hitting percentage.
Madison Park dished out 21 assists while
Madeline MacDonald had 16 digs.
Havilyn Cummings recorded three blocks and five kills for a .400 attack percentage.
The Warriors got out to a 3-0 lead to begin the match thanks to a kill from Aylward, a triple block from Cummings, Aylward and
Allison Cole and a kill from Cole. The Blue Devils stormed back with a 7-2 spurt though to go ahead 7-5 thanks to a pair of service aces. Lawrence Tech stretched its lead out to 16-11 and forced the Warriors to call a timeout, but the Orange and Black came out firing with a 5-0 run to tie the set up at 16-all. A pair of 3-0 runs from both sides continued the tussle, but the Blue Devils came on top 25-21 to take the 1-0 lead.
LTU started off the second set on a 4-1 run, but the Warriors battled back to knot the set up at 7-7 following a 4-0 run. A 5-0 spurt from the hosts forced a timeout from the visitors as the Blue Devils led 15-10 and grew their advantage to 18-12. An 8-3 run from Tech brought them to within a point at 21-20 and while they fought off a pair of set points, LTU would ultimately prevail 25-23 to go up 2-0.
The third set saw the Warriors get up 6-3, but a 7-1 run from the Blue Devils put them up 12-8. Tech would not go down easily though, coming back with a 6-1 spurt to take a 17-16 lead and held a 22-21 advantage just minutes later to force a timeout from LTU. The hosts dug deep though, rattling off four straight points to complete the sweep with the 25-22 win.
Tech (24-9, 12-7 WHAC) concludes the regular season on Wednesday as they host Concordia University (Mich.) in a conference matchup. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
