Warriors Rack Up Honors in WHAC Men’s Soccer Awards

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team was well represented on the list of award winners Friday as the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) released its 2019 regular season honors.
 
Headlining the group was second-year head coach John Dunn and freshman forward Noe Garcia, who were named the WHAC Coach and Offensive Player of the Year, respectively. Dunn led the Warriors to their first-ever regular season conference title with a 10-0-1 mark while Garcia netted a team-best 11 goals and 25 points, the second-most in the WHAC.
 
Joining Garcia on the First-Team All-Conference list was classmates Pep Casas, Will Harris and Luke Jones, and sophomore Angel de Jorge. Casa finished the regulars season with three goals and four assists while logging 1,119 minutes from the midfield, Harris had four goals and one assist from his defender position with 1,422 minutes, the second-most on the team, while Jones had five goals and a conference-best 11 assists from the front line. De Jorge had two assists in 1,310 minutes in the midfield.
 
Tech was also well represented on the Second-Team in junior defender Scott McCarthy, sophomore midfielder Jaxon Simerman and sophomore defender Jaime Tenorio while junior midfielder Maxwell Amoako was named to the All-Newcomer Team. McCarthy had six goals and 1,540 minutes of play, Simerman logged 1,391 minutes with two goals, Tenorio had one goal and one assist in 1,027 minutes while Amoako had six goals and one assist in 881 minutes.
 
The Warriors had a conference-best 16 student-athletes named to the WHAC All-Academic Team (juniors or above in academic standing with a cumulative 3.50 GPA) in Eloi Bassene, Austin Blanton, Darrell Clay, Leo Corso, Malte Dennert, Luiz Fialho de Oliveria, Daniel Gallardo, Jack Koshko, Roberto Maspons, James Ohms, Ivan Safranic, Daniel Sender, Jose Uvidia, Dean Ward, Hunter Williams and Kirklan Ziambao. Bassene was also tabbed as the team's representative for the WHAC Champions of Character Team, which recognizes one player from each team who best represents the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
