SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech softball saw its season come to a close on Monday afternoon in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament at Pacesetter Park, but not before making some history. The seventh-seeded Warriors defeated second-seeded Lawrence Tech in nine innings, 6-3, to advance to the WHAC Tournament Semifinals for the first time since 2011 before falling to third-seeded Siena Heights, 5-3.
Junior third baseman
Brianna Glass also put the finishing touches on a historical season as she stole four bases over the two games to give her 81 on the season and setting a new national record for the NAIA.
Glass started off the Warriors in the top of the first inning against Lawrence Tech with a leadoff walk and a pair of stolen bases before scoring on a throwing error as she swiped third. The Blue Devils would take a 2-1 lead in the fourth as a pair of two out hits put them ahead following a leadoff hit batter. Down to their last out,
Nicolle Sierra gave the Warriors new life as she doubled to left center to score
Payton Robinson and send the game into extra innings all tied up at 2-2.
Sierra put the Orange and Black ahead in the top of the ninth with a one-out single to drive in two runs and make it a 4-2 game while a wild pitch and a single from Glass pushed across two more runs to give Tech a 6-2 lead. The Blue Devils scratched across one more run with two outs in the bottom of the frame, but that would be all they would get as
Amanda Shonka would close out the complete game win.
The Warriors would fall behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first off of three hits from the Saints and tacked on another run in the third to go up 3-0.
Kari LaFreniere drove in Robinson and
Sarah Cummings with a two-out double in the fourth to make it a one run game, but Siena Heights used back-to-back triples and a single up the middle to push two more runs across the plate and make it a 5-3 game.
Emily Martin cut the deficit to 5-3 with an RBI ground out in the fifth and had the game-winning run up at the plate with two outs in the seventh, but the Saints were able to escape the comeback attempt and end the Warriors season.
Tech finishes the season 24-25, its most wins in a season since 2012 when they had 25 victories.
