Warriors Hold Off Lancers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's tennis team defeated regional rival Grace College, 4-3, Thursday afternoon at Swinney Tennis Center.
 
The Lancers, who came into the match with a 4-0 mark and a victory over No. 17-ranked University of Northwestern Ohio, took the doubles point with wins at first and second flight. Alvaro Garrido and Alvaro Gomez held off the Grace sweep with a 6-3 triumph at third flight.
 
Raybin Chan and Juan Avellaneda both picked up straight-set wins at the third and fourth position, respectively, winning 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-4. Garrido helped to tie the match up at 3-3 with a 6-4, 7-6 (2) victory at fifth flight to put all eyes on the all-important match between Jafer Infante and Mauricio Corty at the number six position.
 
After splitting the first two sets, the two players were knotted up in the decisive third set that went into a tie breaker, with Infante eventually coming out on top 7-4 to clinch the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4) win.
 
Tech (2-0) returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Huntington University. First serve is set for 3 p.m. from Klopfenstein Tennis Courts.
