FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's wrestling team hosted their first event in school history today when No. 5 Life University came for a Mid-South Conference dual at 3 p.m. in the Schaefer Center.
This is the second time this year that the two teams have met, with the first encounter ending in a 39-5 Life victory. No. 16
Whitley Blake wrestled in the 101-weight class today against Devyn Gomez. Gomez took the victory via fall in just 1:18 to claim five points for the Running Eagles. No. 11
Tehani Soares was next up for the Warriors at 109 against No. 10 Katalina Bartelt, a rematch from the last time the two teams met. Unfortunately, the match ended early due to an injury, but the Warriors gained five points to tie the match at 5-5.
Alyssa Schuller made her college debut for Tech at 116 against No. 6 Kory Phillips. Phillips took the victory via fall in 4:05 to give the Running Eagles a 10-5 lead.
No. 1 Peyton Prussin and
Markaela Pugh were the next to faceoff at 123.
Pugh was unable to match Prussin's intensity and ultimately lost via tech fall (11-0) in 2:32 for Life to go up 14-5. No. 18
Charmayne DeLong represented the Warriors at 130 against No. 3 Julia Vidallon.
DeLong battled with Vidallon before Vidallon took over to earn the 12-6 decision and earn three more points for Life while
DeLong earned a point for Tech to put the match score at 17-6.
Alexandra Mireles took on No. 9 Briana Kellin at 136 where Kellin controlled the match and won 10-0 in 1:24 for four more points to the Running Eagles.
No. 14
Samantha Snow of the Warriors wrestled No. 11 Hailey Finn at 143.
Snow started down 4-0 and had a six-point comeback to win the match 10-4 putting the match score at 22-9. Jackie Font wrestled for Life at 155 while
Glenda Veiga represented Tech. After
Veiga fought through the first period, Font took the match via fall in 4:45. No. 20
Catherin McNulty took on No. 3 Jordan Nelson, but was unable to match Nelson's aggressiveness and fell 10-0 in 2:14. The final match of the dual was No. 13 Katie Moore against No. 17
Perla Ramirez.
Ramirez started strong by taking four points before Moore kicked it into gear and pinned
Ramirez in 2:34 to earn the 36-9 victory for the Running Eagles.
The Warriors are back on the mat tomorrow for the Warrior Open starting at 9 a.m.
