OKLAHOMA CITY – Indiana Tech freshman Nick Gates was named the Sooner Athletic Conference Men's Wrestler of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
 
Gates went 4-1 and took second place in the 157-lbs. bracket of the Greyhound Open on Sunday at the University of Indianapolis. Currently ranked 19^th in his weight class, the Smiths Creek, Michigan native earned a pair of one-point wins, one major decision and a pin in the tournament while his lone loss came in the finals to Quinn Kenner of Ohio State University.
 
It is the first time in his career that he has won the weekly award from the conference.
