ADRIAN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team fell to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Siena Heights University, 3-0, 25-12, 25-17, 25-23, Wednesday evening inside the SHU Fieldhouse.
Daynte Stewart had a team-high 11 kills to go along with four digs while
Cameron Ternent had seven kills.
Chandler Davis dished out 27 assists and two blocks while
Joey Hermes had seven digs.
The Saints controlled the opening set from first serve as they went off on a 9-0 run to begin the match. Siena Heights showed no signs of slowing down as they built their lead up to 20-6 and took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-12 win.
The second set was more even as the two sides traded points over the first 10 serves, but the hosts took advantage of a 4-0 run to go up 8-5. A 7-2 spurt from Siena Heights pushed their lead up to 15-8 while a 5-1 run made it a 21-12 game. Tech managed to put some pressure on the hosts as they cut the lead down to 23-16, but it would be too little too late as the Saints took a 2-0 lead following the 25-17 win.
The Warriors fought tooth and nail through the third set, finding themselves tied with Siena Heights after 28 serves. A quick 3-0 spurt from the hosts put them ahead 17-14, but the Orange and Black did not go down lightly as they cut the deficit down to 18-17. Trailing 23-19, the visitors went on a 4-1 run to make it a 24-23 game and fought off one match point, but the Saints held on for the 25-23 win to complete the sweep.
Tech (4-10, 0-3 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they make the short trip north on I-69 to battle regional rival Trine University and NCAA Division III foe Hiram College in a tri-match. First serve is set for 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively, from Hershey Hall.
