RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team swept a four-game series against the University of Rio Grande this weekend at Bob Evans Baseball Field, winning 20-11, 4-0, 6-1 and 10-1.
Tech exploded for 14 hits and 20 runs in the weekend opener Saturday afternoon, scoring seven runs in the first and adding seven more in the fourth.
Charles Dunavan struck out six batters in four innings of work to pick up the win while
Christian De Los Santos went 4-4 with three runs batted in, two doubles and two runs.
Yeshua Saint, Spencer McGhee and
Mike Snyder all tallied two hits, with Snyder hitting his fourth home run of the season four batters into the game and driving in three runs along with McGhee.
Game two of Saturday's doubleheader saw the Warriors score four times even though they only managed five hits. A two-out three-run homer from
Reese Olden provided most of the offense for
Hayes Sturtsman, who threw a complete game shutout, allowing just one hits while striking out 12 batters in seven innings of work.
The Warriors continued to manufacture runs in Sunday's twinbill, using seven runs to push across six runs in the opener. Snyder drove in two more runs with another long ball while
Jake Ritson went 2-3 with a run. Snyder scored Tech's first run of the game in the second and put the Warriors up for good in the fourth with his fourth homer of the season. A sacrifice fly from Snyder drove in
Daniel Johnson II in the fifth while two more runs scored in the sixth to put the Red Strom away.
Landon Bloir picked up the win in relief after throwing four innings of one-hit ball and striking out six batters.
A six-run third inning that was powered by five walks, two sacrifice flies and two singles proved to be the difference in the weekend finale as the Warriors went up 7-1 after just three innings of play.
Jacob Daftari and Johnson II each drove in a pair of runs with the latter legging out a triple as well. McGhee earned the win after throwing four innings of shutout ball, allowing just four hits while striking out three.
Tech (5-2) returns to action this weekend as they travel to regional rival Taylor University for a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. for a single game at Winterholder Field.
