GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's tennis team defeated Aquinas College, 6-1, Saturday afternoon in their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) match of the season inside MVP Sportsplex.
"Unbelievable grit and determination from our ladies tonight," head coach
Brock Orlowski said. "We had five women battling the flu all week and they dug deep and battled at each spot to find a way to win. They played with a lot of heart today."
Tech started off the match strong by taking the doubles points with two wins to go up 1-0.
Vero Jimenez and
Dominique Michelet won 6-0 at third flight while
Martina Borges and
Elena Tokic won 6-3 at second flight.
Jimenez notched a hard-fought win at number two singles with a 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-4 victory while Michelet battled back from a first-set loss to win at four singles, 5-7, 6-0, 6-0. Borges won 6-2, 6-0 at third position while Tokic won 6-1, 7-5 at six singles.
Carolina Fabbri won 6-3, 6-2 at fifth position.
Tech (7-2, 1-0 WHAC) returns to action on Friday, March 6 as they start off their Spring Break trip with a match against NCAA Division I foe Bowling Green State University. First serve is set for 2 p.m. from the Perrysburg Tennis Center in Perrysburg, Ohio.
