OSKALOOSA, Iowa – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team fell in four sets (25-21, 17-25, 17-26, 11-25) to the University of Jamestown in their opening match of the William Penn Quadrangular Friday evening inside the Penn Activity Center.
Mason Milan had a team-high 10 kills while
Chandler Davis dished out 25 assists and six digs.
Jason Miller had eight digs while
Daynte Stewart had six kills.
Dante Siracusa had five kills and three blocks.
The first set was a tightly contested affair with neither side hold more than a four-point lead until midway through as Tech led 15-11 following a 4-1 run. The Jimmies made several spurts to bring the game within a point, but the Warriors held off their advances each time. After Jamestown cut the deficit down to 22-21, the Orange and Black responded with a 3-0 run to close out the set with a pair of kills from Stewart and an ace from
Cameron Ternent.
Jamestown raced out to a 5-2 lead in the second, but the Warriors battled back with a 4-0 run to go up 6-5. The two teams traded points before a 7-2 spurt from the Jimmies gave them an 18-12 advantage. Tech cut the deficit back down to four points at 21-17, but a 4-0 run gave Jamestown the win and knotted the match up at 1-1.
Tech found itself trailing early in the third as the Jimmies powered ahead with an 11-5 run, including a 6-0 spurt to cap the outburst. The Warriors took advantage of several Jamestown errors though to come back on a 4-0 run and make it an 11-9 game, but a 12-1 run put the set firmly in the hands of the Jimmies as they went up 24-12. Tech staved off five set points to put the pressure back on the Jimmies, but a service error from the Warriors gave them the win and the 2-1 lead.
Jamestown was in control from the beginning of the fourth set as they got out to a 12-4 lead. A 6-0 spurt powered their advantage up to 19-7 and while the Warriors managed to get into double digits, it would not be enough to slow down the Jimmies as they prevailed 25-11 to complete the comeback and take the match 3-1.
Tech (4-7) returns to action on Saturday with a pair of matches against Viterbo University and William Penn University complete the WPU Quad. Match times are set for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ET from the Penn Activity Center.
