TIFFIN, Ohio – Women's wrestling traveled to Tiffin University earlier today to face off against the Dragons and fell 31-16.
The match started at 101 where
Whitley Blake faced Shanna Morris of Tiffin.
Blake scored the first point of the match with a pushout before Morris took over with a takedown and continued to score points to win the match 12-1. The Warriors earned one point of the match up while Tiffin tallied four.
Tehani Soares took the mat at 109 for Tech while Brooke Richards represented Tiffin. Richards had an early takedown and continued to keep the momentum in the first period to lead 6-2 after the first. Richards continued her momentum into the second period with a quick takedown in under a minute into the second period.
Soares had a burst of energy toward the end and earned a takedown with 15 seconds left, but ran out of time and fell 8-4. The Warriors were now trailing 7-2.
Korigan Wilkey wrestled at 116 against Sugey Ceja.
Wilkey started the match strong scoring the first point by a pushout. Ceja got a quick takedown to lead 2-1 before scoring a four-point takedown that led to a pin in 2:05. At 123,
Korissa VanOver of Tech faced Stephanie Mondragon of Tiffin. Mondragon took control early scoring six points before
VanOver got the reversal for one point. Mondragon turned around and got another takedown to lead 8-1 before
VanOver kicked it up a notch and scored to points herself.
VanOver lost control and Mondragon took advantage and won via fall in 2:47. The Warriors now trailed the Dragons 17-2.
The Warriors had
Charmayne DeLong at 130 to wrestle Trinity Berry. Berry took an early lead with the first takedown for two points before being reset to the center.
DeLong then recorded a takedown before Berry reversed it for a point to lead 3-2.
DeLong took control shortly after and turned Berry to her back and earned the pin victory in 1:27 and earn five points for the Warriors.
Sydney Lewis represented the Warriors at 136 against Eunique Davis of Tiffin. Davis scored the first two points of the match before
Lewis got the reversal to tie the match at 2-2. Davis quickly earned another takedown before
Lewis was able to score another point before the end of the first. There were no points scored in the second period and
Lewis fell to Davis 4-3 to give Tiffin a 20-8 lead.
Samantha Snow took the mat at 143 to face Nia Miranda. Miranda scored the first two points before
Snow took control with an aggressive takedown that turned into a pin in just 1:15 to give the Warriors five team points. At 155,
Glenda Veiga wrestled for the Warriors while Taylor Hites represented the Dragons. Hites scored points early and led 2-1 before getting
Veiga on her back and winning via fall in 1:09 to put the Dragons up 25-13.
Catherine McNulty went onto the mat for the Warriors at 170 to face Morgan Davidson.
McNulty scored the first two points quickly with a takedown before going out of bounds.
McNulty started the second period strong with a takedown early paired with a roll to lead 6-0. Davidson pulled a reversal for one point before
McNulty took control and earned two more takedowns to win the match 10-1 and earn three points for the Warriors.
Perla Ramirez represented Tech at 191 against Jessie Lee.
Ramirez tallied three pushouts for three points before Lee recorded a pushout before the end of the first period.
Ramirez defended a shot by Lee at the beginning of the second and turned it into two points before Lee reversed it to put the score at 5-2. Lee took control and won via fall in 3:53 and won the match for the Dragons 31-16.
The Warriors will be back in action on their home mat on Saturday, January 23
rd when they host Mid-South Conference opponent Brewton-Parker at 10 a.m.
