FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team defeated Lincoln College in four sets (25-15, 25-12, 24-16, 25-13) Wednesday evening inside the Schaefer Center.
Dante Siracusa had a match-high 11 kills to go along with 11 digs and two blocks, while
Mason Milan had nine kills, nine digs and six service aces.
Joey Hermes added 12 digs, four kills, three assists and two aces while
Chandler Davis dished out 27 assists.
The Warriors dominated the first set thanks to a 5-0 run that put them up 12-4, with three of the points coming off service aces from Milan. Tech continued to power through the first set as they doubled up the Lynx at 18-9. Milan added two more aces during a 3-0 spurt to put the hosts up 23-12, and while Lincoln rattled off three straight points to make it a 23-15 set, Tech responded with a double block from
Brandon Jones and
Chase Christiansen to get serve back en route to the 25-15 win.
The two teams were deadlocked in a 5-5 tie to kick off the second, but a 7-2 spurt from the Warriors put them ahead 12-7. Kills from
Jon Fonda,
Raekwon Rogers and
Preston Bright kicked off the rally as the Orange and Black never looked back. A 9-1 spurt from Tech pushed their lead to 19-9 while the Warriors ended the set on a 6-2 run to go up 2-0 thanks to the 25-12 win.
While the third set featured the most kills out of the four for the Warriors, with 17 in all, it would be the lone loss on the night for the hosts. Tech came out swinging and used an 8-1 run to go up 14-8, with Siracusa and Davis each getting two blocks during the run. An 8-3 run from the Lynx brought them within a point at 17-16 though, and the visitors kept the pressure on the Orange and Black with a 6-3 run that put Lincoln ahead 23-22. After trading the next three points and getting knotted up at 24, Lincoln got on the scoreboard thanks to back-to-back kills from Jamere Jackson to force a fourth set.
Fueled by the set three loss, Tech came roaring out in the fourth with a 7-2 run to take control from the opening serve. A 4-0 run pushed the lead up to 15-7 and the Warriors never looked back as they surrendered just six more points as they took the match with a 25-13 set win.
Tech (3-1) returns to action on Tuesday, January 26 as they travel to Aquinas College for their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) opener against the No. 9-ranked Saints. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center.
