FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 10-ranked Indiana Tech men's volleyball team defeated Georgetown College 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22) Saturday afternoon in their first match as a ranked program inside the Schaefer Center.
Daynte Stewart had a team-best 10 kills to go along with three aces and two blocks.
Dante Siracusa had seven kills with a .455 hitting percentage while
Brandon Jones dished out 25 assists.
Chase Christiansen recorded four solo blocks while
Joey Hermes had nine digs.
Tech started off the match with a 6-1 run over the first-year Georgetown program, but the Tigers rallied back with a 5-0 run to knot the set up at 9-9. The Warriors regained control with a 5-0 run to take a 20-14 lead and took the opening set 25-19.
The Warriors opened the second on a 3-0 run, but again the Tigers responded with a 4-0 run to take a slight one-point lead early. After battling back and forth, Tech got on a roll with a 6-0 run to make it a 14-9 advantage and never trailed again. After getting up 17-10, the Warriors found themselves threatened with a 5-1 spurt from the visitors that made it an 18-15 game, but the Orange and Black responded with a 4-1 run to put any hopes of a comeback out of sight en route to the 25-20 win to make it 2-0 in the match.
Trailing 9-8 in the third, Tech went on a 4-0 spurt to go up 12-9. The Warriors were unable to shake the Tigers as got within a point at 19-18 and threatened to send the match into a fourth set, but the hosts were able to finish strong as they completed the sweep with the 25-22 win.
Tech (5-1) returns to conference action Tuesday as they head to first-year program and WHAC newcomer Mount Vernon Nazarene University. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from Ariel Arena.
