ADRIAN, Mich. – The No. 11-ranked Indiana Tech women's wrestling team had a successful showing over the weekend at Adrian College with strong showings at the Adrian Duals Saturday and the Adrian Open Sunday inside the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.
Tech defeated Schreinder University 28-16 in their opening dual of the weekend while falling to Lindenwood University 30-12 and Adrian 32-14. The Warriors also defeated a combined Davenport University/Carthage College squad intermixed with Indiana Tech athletes, 41-4.
Tehani Soares went 3-0 on Saturday with a three tech falls and a pin while
Taylor Wilson pinned both her opponents.
The Warriors turned around Sunday and garnered 171.5 points to finish in a tie for third with Lindenwood at the Adrian Open while 13 wrestlers earned spots on the top-eight of their respective weight classes.
Taylor Wilson and
Tehani Soares both took first place at 101 and 109-lbs., respectively, by going 3-0. Wilson had two falls and a tech fall while Soares had one tech fall. Alexis Westfall,
Sydney Kutzke and
Destiny Shelton took fourth, fifth and seventh at 101-lbs., respectively, with Westfall earning two pins.
Riley Horvath was sixth at 109-lbs.,
Korigan Wilkey was fourth at 116,
Emma Jones was eighth at 116,
Allyssa Pirro was seventh at 130,
Elly Kuzma was fourth at 136,
Alexandra Mireles was sixth at 136,
Carley Anderson was fifth at 143 and
Grace Doering was fifth at 170. Pirro, Kuzma, and Anderson all recorded a pin and tech fall.
Tech returns to action November 19 with the first day of the Missouri Valley Open.
