Baseball Ends Four-Game Series with Taylor

UPLAND, Ind. – Baseball ended the four-game series with Taylor yesterday and was unable to come out with a win and lost two more.

In game one, Yeshua Saint started the first at bat of the game strong with a double down the right field line. Jacob Daftari stepped up to the plate and singled to center field to put two on base with no outs. Spenser McGhee was the next up to bat and he singled to right field and scored Saint to give Tech a 1-0 lead. Despite getting more runners on base, the Warriors were unable to score again in the first inning but led 1-0 early. In the bottom of the first, Taylor quickly answered to tie the game 1-1 heading into the second inning.

The Warriors were the next team to get a run across in the top of the fourth. With one out, Christian De Los Santos hit a single to shallow right field to get on base before the Trojans secured the second out with the next batter. Reese Olden then doubled to deep right center to score De Los Santos for the Warriors to lead 2-1 in the top of the fourth. Taylor answered in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game 2-2.

Tech scored against in the top of the fifth with McGhee starting the action with a single up the middle to reach first. Parker Bates came in to pinch run for McGhee and stole second to put himself into scoring position. Mike Snyder put the ball in play to cause an error and get on base followed by Jacob Alvidrez doing the same. With the two errors, Bates was able to score and give the Warriors a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Taylor scored to tie the game 3-3 and they scored again in the bottom of the ninth after holding Tech scoreless to earn the 4-3 win in game one.

Both Saint and Daftari went 1-for-5 in the first game with McGhee being 3-for-4 at the plate along with De Los Santos. Olden went 2-for-4 in the box with Snyder going 1-for-4. McGhee pitched 4.2 innings with one strikeout while Hayes Sturtsman pitched 3.1 innings with five strikeouts.

In game two, Taylor opened the first two innings with six runs before the Warriors were able to get on the board. In the top of the fourth, with two outs and McGhee on base, Daftari found a whole at shortstop and singled to move McGhee into scoring position. Ashtin Moxey then stepped up to the plate and singled to left field to score McGhee for the Warriors lone run of the game. Between the bottom of the fourth and bottom of the sixth, the Trojans scored seven more runs to win the game 13-1.

Daftari went 2-for-2 at the plate with Christian Mojica going 1-for-1. Moxey went 1-for-3 in the box for the three of them to record the four hits for the Warriors. Zach Zaborowski started on the mound and pitched 1.1 innings with no strikeouts while Kyler Seeman came in for 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. Phillip Hobbs also made an appearance for Tech with 2.0 innings pitched and one strikeout with Ryan Troxel finishing the last inning of the game with one strikeout.

The Warriors are back in action on Tuesday, March 2nd when they host Goshen at the Ash Centre World Baseball Academy at 4 p.m. for a single game.
