DES MOINES, Iowa – The No. 11-ranked Indiana Tech men's volleyball team fell to No. 6-ranked Vanguard University 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-20) Wednesday morning in their second match of the NAIA National Championships at the Iowa Events Center.
How It Happened
- The two teams were even though 13 serves when the Lions went on a 5-0 run to take a 13-7 lead. After splitting the next three serves, Vanguard took full control of the set with a 9-1 run to go up 21-10 and took the first set handily.
- After hitting .611 in the opening set, the Lions continued their hot hitting into the second with a .516 hitting percentage and raced out to a 13-9 lead. Tech battled to keep the Lions within striking distance, but a 5-1 run put Vanguard up 24-18 and in position for the commanding 2-0 lead.
- After the Warriors tied the third set up at 6-6, Vanguard went on a 5-0 run to go up for good and eventually pushed the lead to 17-9. The Warriors fought off two set points to put the pressure on the Lions, but the sixth-ranked team in the nation completed the sweep.
Tech now awaits the result of Thursday's match between Vanguard and Campbellsville to determine if they will play in a tiebreaker match to see who wins their pool to advance to the national semifinals.
