UTICA, Mich. – The Warriors split in final conference doubleheader against Lawrence Tech.
The Warriors jumped out to an early lead scoring a run in the top of the first inning when
Christian De Los Santos singled to right field to score
Jacob Alvidrez. In the top of the second,
Manuel Ascanio hit a solo homerun to put the Warriors ahead 2-0. Indiana Tech had two more cross home when
Spenser McGhee hit a single to left field to score
Alvidrez and
Jake Ritson to take a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the third,
Jacob Daftari hit a two-run homer to score himself and
Alex Mitchell to score and put the Warriors ahead 6-0. Three more runs crossed home in the top of the fifth for the Warriors before the Blue Devils were able to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the seventh,
Daftari hit another home run before
Reese Olden scored the eleventh run for the Warriors. Indiana Tech held the Blue Devils scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to win 11-1 in seven innings.
Ben Lambert earned the win pithing six innings with four strikeouts while
Kris Massey pitched the last inning with one strikeout.
Daftari went 2-for-4 on the game with two runs and three RBIs while both
Olden and
Ascanio were 2-for-4 at the plate.
In game two, the Warriors jumped out to another early lead when
Tyler Stahl hit a three-run homer in the top of the first innings. Lawrence Tech responded with a run in the bottom of the first to get back within two (3-1). In the top of the second,
Tristan Osika scored off a ball put in play by
Micah O'Donnell before
Christian Mojica singled to score both
O'Donnel and
Clay Lewis. The Warriors led 3-1.
Lawrence Tech bounced back in the bottom of the third scoring three runs to get back within two (6-4). The Warriors scored another in the top of the fourth to secure their lead at 7-4. The Blue Devils rallied and scored two in the bottom of the fourth to get within one (7-6) with just over half the game left. Neither team was able to score again until the bottom of the seventh when Lawrence Tech hit a home run with two on base to score three runs and take a 9-7 lead. The Warriors were unable to get any offense going and dropped the second game 9-7.
Phillip Hobbs took the loss on the mound pitching three innings with four strikeouts.
Stahl led the Warriors at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs.
The Warriors will be back in action on Thursday, May 6
th, for the conference tournament where seeds will be announced later in the week.
