MARION & HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's tennis team concluded a busy weekend at the IWU Fall Classic with a pair of wins over Olivet Nazarene University, 5-0, and Huntington University, 4-0, Saturday at the Sutter Tennis Center and Klopfenstein Tennis Courts, respectively.
The Warriors rolled through doubles play against the Tigers with a 6-0 win at second flight from
Vero Jimenez and Semmie Moore while
Marianna Murcia and
Thaina Carvalho won 6-3 at third flight. Moore kicked off singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number four while
Ana Gomez followed up with a 6-1 6-2 decision at number five.
Abigail Simms and Carvalho wrapped up the win for Tech with 6-1, 7-5 and 6-3, 6-1 decisions at number three and six, respectively.
Tech made the drive from Indiana Wesleyan to Huntington and had no problem dispatching the Foresters as the first flight of Simms/Gomez and third flight of Carvalho and Valentina Rodriguez both came away with 6-1 victories to secure the doubles point. Gomez split sets at number four in singles play but ended up with a 2-6, 6-2, 10-5 win while Moore won 6-4, 7-5 at number three. Murcia notched the other win for the Warriors with a 6-1, 6-2 decision at number two.
Tech (4-0) returns to action September 29 with the start of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.
