MARIETTA, Ga. – The No. 15-ranked Indiana Tech women's wrestling team went 2-1 Saturday at the Life University Duals, defeating No. 19-ranked and Mid-South Conference foe Brewton-Parker College, 29-19, and No. 10-ranked (NWCA/NCAA DII) Emmanuel College (Ga.) 29-17 while falling to No. 1-ranked and MSC leader Life 30-16.
The Running Eagles took the first two matches by tech fall to go up 8-0, but a 10-8 decision by
Alyssa Schuller and a pin by
Emma Jones knotted the dual up at 8-8.
Elly Kuzma scored five points due to an injury by her opponent to put the Warriors up 13-12, but the hosts won the next four matches by fall or tech fall to take the opening dual.
The match with Brewton-Parker was a back and forth contest as the two teams traded wins over the seven bouts, with Schuller, Kuzma and
Carley Anderson picking up wins via an 8-7 decision and falls. Tech secured the match with a pin from
Grace Doering at 170-lbs. while Kesli Miller earned the last win of the dual at 191-lbs. via forfeit.
Tech used three straight pins by Jones,
Charmayne DeLong and Kuzma to go up 18-9 on Emmanuel and never looked back to end the excursion with a 2-1 record.
Tech (11-6, 4-1 MSC) now turns its attention to the MSC Championships, scheduled for February 20 in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
