Fort Wayne, Ind. – The No. 5-ranked Indiana Tech men's volleyball team (16-0, 8-0 WHAC) extends their win streak to 16 after registering a 3-0 defeat over Cardinal Stritch (25-16, 25-16, 27-25) Thursday night in the Schaefer Center.
Daynte Stewart and
Mason Milan tied for a team high 10 kills hitting .320 and .500 respectfully.
Brandon Jones who was named WHAC Setter of the Week on Monday, notched 18 assists and six digs while
Raekwon Rogers added seven blocks and
Joey Hermes had 13 digs and two service aces.
The first set went back and forth with two lead changes and 11 ties throughout the set. The Warriors did not see their largest lead until they took the advantage 15-12 after scoring five straight points off a kill and block by Milan, a couple errors, and a Hermes service ace. The Wolves came back on a kill and an error before Tech went on a 4-0 run increasing their lead 21-14 and later finishing off the set with three straight points with two more kills by Milan.
The second set saw the same exact score as the first but with less lead changes and ties. Tech jumped out to an early 9-5 lead before the visitors fired back notching four straight points to make things even at nine. The two teams traded points back and forth for the next eight points until the Orange and Black prevailed to take the next four points after a couple errors and two blocks by Rogers to make the score 17-13. The Warriors gave up only three more points the rest of the set and went on to win 25-16.
Cardinal Stritch controlled a lot of the third set, having the advantage late into the set 20-17 before the Warriors answered off an error and service ace by Stewart to cut the lead to within two. Eventually, Tech tied things up at 21 and the two teams went point-for-point until the Wolves saw set point at 24-23 and 25-24, but Tech triumphed and went on to score the next three points to win the set 27-25 off a Milan and
Chase Christiansen block.
Tech returns to action in Grand Rapids, Mich. Saturday afternoon (Feb. 26) as they take on RV Aquinas at 3 PM.
