NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team continued its spring break trek Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader against No. 18-ranked Indiana University Southeast, winning game one of the doubleheader 3-1 before falling in the nightcap 6-1 at Koetter Sports Complex.
The Warriors benefited from a pair of unearned runs, scoring on a double steal in the second while
Micah O'Donnell drove in
Jayden Reed with a fielder's choice groundout in the third. A sacrifice fly from
Manuel Ascanio made it a 3-0 game, giving
Zachary Zaborowski and
Kris Massey plenty of support on the mound, with the former picking up the win after six strong innings with four strikeouts and the latter notching the save with a pair of strikeouts.
The Grenadiers struck first in game two with a two-run homer in the first from Brody Tanksley while a solo shot from Brandon Boxer made it a 3-0 game after two frames. A sacrifice fly from
Tyler Stahl in the fifth cut the deficit to 3-1, but that was the only run the Warriors could muster off of six IU Southeast pitchers, who limited the visitors to just four hits over seven innings. The hosts pushed the lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth with a two out single from Trevor Campbell that scored two runs following two walks, two stolen bases and two flyouts.
Tech (10-10) returns to action Wednesday as they play their first game in Fort Wayne with a quick ride over to Spring Street to take on the University of Saint Francis in a single nine-inning game. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. from Cougar Field.
