DETROIT, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team took care of business Sunday afternoon by sweeping Michigan Dearborn, 5-0, 12-2 at the Corner Ballpark. With the two wins, the Warriors move to 12-11 overall and 2-0 in the WHAC.
The Warriors got things started right away in the first with a
Tyler Stahl homerun and a single by Micha O'Donnell who would later be sent in off an RBI single by
Jacob Daftari that gave the visitors the 2-0 lead.
The bats seemed to be not as hot the next two innings for the Warriors as they were scoreless and only had one hit. Luckily for the Orange and Black, UM-Dearborn struggled to get into a hitting groove as well. Tech got things rolling again in the fourth inning by scoring two more runs behind the efforts of Stahl who hit a single RBI that sent
Ashtin Moxey home before later
Jayden Reed turned on the wheels to steal home to give his team the 4-0 lead.
Mike Snyder scored the final run for the Warriors off a homer in the fifth inning that gave the Orange and Black the 5-0 lead.
Hayes Sturtsman (3-1) got the win on the mound for the Warriors after allowing no runs and only four hits to go along with nine strikeouts.
Jared Maxfield got his first win on the mound this season after notching four strikeouts in six innings pitched before
Spencer Strobel would replace him, allowing zero hits, zero runs, and tailing two strikeouts in two innings pitched.
Tech kept the bats going in the second game, scoring three runs in the first inning off a Daftari RBI that would send two runners' home to take the 2-0 lead. It was not much longer before
Brice Stultz crossed home off an error made by the defense. The Wolverines did a little scoring of their own in the bottom of the first with a homerun. The next two innings were scoreless for both teams as each only had one hit in each.
The Warrior bats got rolling again in the fourth and fifth inning. The fourth inning saw an RBI by Stultz that sent two runners' home to give his team the 5-1 lead before Dearborn answered back with another run of their own. The Orange and Black cranked out three more runs in the fifth with the help of a Stahl RBI double that allowed Reed and Moxey to score, advancing the lead to 7-2 and then later 8-2 after another double by O'Donnell, sending Stahl home. UM was scoreless the remainder of the game, but for the Warriors they managed to grab four more runs.
Fast forward to a slug fest in the seventh inning that saw Daftari hit a single RBI to send a runner home who later would be sent home off an
AJ Gray single that sent two Warriors home, making the lead 11-2. Tech did not let up as they scored one more run in eighth inning by the efforts of
Parker Bates who hit an RBI single to give his team the 12-2 lead and later the win.
The Warriors are back in action March 23 for their home opener against Wright State Lake University for a single game at 5 p.m.
