Warriors Sweep Cougars

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The No. 7- ranked Indiana Tech men's volleyball team finished off the season sweep of Mount Vernon Nazarene with another 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-22) win Wednesday night.

The Warriors were led by Mason Milan who had nine kills to go along with four blocks and one service ace while Daynte Stewart added eight kills, six digs, and an ace. Brandon Jones played a large role in the win, dishing out a game high 35 assists and five blocks while also having a team best eight digs.

Each of the three sets proved to be close ones as the Cougars never saw a deficit larger than nine while also seeing 14 ties and three lead changes throughout the contest.

Tech controlled the first set, never letting MVNU catch up and even up the score. The Warriors saw their largest lead at the 22-13 mark, but a 4-point surge by the Cougars cut the lead back down to five. The run by the hosts did not disrupt the guests as they scored the next three points to end the set after a Stewart block and a kill by Mario Capo.

After the Orange and Black jumped out to the 3-0 lead, the Cougars answered back and the two teams traded points back and forth for a majority of the set before a Mount Vernon timeout inspired a scoring run for the Cougars, making things even at 21. A kill by Raekwon Rogers off the assist from Jones got the Warriors back on track and eventually the Warriors took the set.

The third set saw a bit of a different start than the first two as MVNU jumped out to an 8-4 lead. Tech answered back with a 6-1 run that gave them the 10-9 advantage. The two teams pretty much went point for point a remainder of the set before Tech saw the game point advantage 24-19. The Cougars did not give up as they scored the next three points, but Dante Siracusa sealed the deal with a kill and the Warriors took the set and the match.
