Warriors Ousted in WHAC Tournament

LIMA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech baseball team saw its season come to a close Saturday afternoon in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament as they were swept by No. 21-ranked University of Northwestern Ohio, falling in 10 innings of both games by 4-3 scores.

Jayden Reed went 3-6 in game with one a double and a run while Mike Snyder and Tyler Stahl both notched two hits, with the latter adding a double and two RBIs. Tech had seven batters hit by Racer pitchers and had 11 hits, but stranded 14 runners in the game. Zachary Zaborowski went 6.2 innings on the hill, allowing three runs, two earned, on nine hits while strikeout out six.

Reed led off the game with a single and the Warriors quickly loaded the bases thanks to a sacrifice bunt and back-to-back hit batters to bring up Stahl, who promptly delivered a double to center that scored a pair of runners, but that's all the Races would allow in the top of the first.

The Racers scored single runs in the second and third, both coming with two outs in the inning, but Zaborowski was able to strand two runners on the basepaths in both frames to limit the damage. Tech retook the lead in the fourth was Tristian Osika worked a walk with the bases loaded and the visitors looked to be in business with no one out, but UNOH was able to strand the remaining runners to keep the deficit at one run.

A two-out double from the Racers tied the game up in the seventh and while both teams had the go-ahead run on base in the next three innings, it wasn't until the bottom of the 10th that the Racers were able to push across the winning run thanks to a leadoff double, a wild pitch and a single.

Jacob Daftari went 4-4 in game two with a double, one RBI and a run while Snyder was 3-5 with an RBI while Trevor Patterson and Ashtin Moxey both collected two hits, with the former adding an RBI and both hitters collecting a double. Jared Maxfield went seven innings in the start, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four.

UNOH took the first lead following an RBI groundout in the top of the third, but the Warriors came storming back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs in the inning and Osika on second base, Patterson delivered a double to left to score Tech's first baseman while Daftari doubled in Patterson in the next at-bat to put the visitors up 2-1. Snyder singled to left to make it a 3-1 game was Daftari scored from second. The Racers got a run back in the sixth and tied the game up in the following a walk, a hit batter, a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly.

UNOH was able to load the bases in the top of the ninth with two outs, but Kris Massey got out of the jam to preserve the tie. Tech had the game-winning run at second base with two outs in the bottom of the frame, but was unable to push the run across the plate as the two teams went into their second extra inning affair. The Racers scored the winning run in the top of the 10th following a pair of infield hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly while putting the Warriors down in order in the bottom of the inning to advance to the WHAC Championship Series.

Tech finishes the 2022 season with a 32-21 record.
