FORT WAYNE, ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team continued their unbeaten run to start WHAC play, now six games without a loss and four straight wins with their latest victim being the Gray Wolves of Lourdes University.
After three straight wins over Rochester University, the University of Northwestern Ohio, and Cornerstone University, the Warriors defeated Lourdes University 2-0 on Wednesday night.
Douglas Appiah Kubi, a sophomore from Accra, Ghana got the Warriors on the board at the 15
th minute mark of the first half following a corner kick from
Luke Jones to the back post that was headed back across the six-yard box by
Nicola Brocca and headed in by Appiah Kubi. Minutes before the half ended,
Kodai Kobayashi would extend the Warriors lead to two with a nice, slotted finish into the bottom corner coming off an assist from
Christos Philippou. Tech would hold their 2-0 lead throughout the second half dominating most of the game with their possession of the ball. The Warriors were also bailed out by some late game heroics from goalkeeper
Philip Kooper, who was making his Tech debut tonight. He would end the game with six saves and none bigger than his penalty kick save with 20 minutes to go in the game. After a clumsy challenge from a Warrior defender, Hussein Sbeiti of Lourdes stepped up to the penalty spot to take the kick from twelve yards out, but Kooper read it all the way diving to his right and catching the shot in his hands to preserve the Warriors two goal lead. The Warriors would hold on for the win, despite being outshot in the contest, due to their impressive passing and ability to hold the ball for long spells of time.
Indiana Tech now moves to 4-0-2 in conference play and 5-3-4 on the season. The Warriors will host Siena Heights University on Saturday, October 14
th at 12:00pm.
