Ali Reaches 100 Career Points as Men’s Hockey Wins Battle of Warriors with Sweep Over Rochester

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's hockey team swept Rochester University in their two-game series on Friday and Saturday, with Tech coming out on top by a combined 17-3.

On the road Friday, Tech would walk away with a 7-2 victory. In the contest, Avery Smith would lead the Warriors with three points, picking up a goal and two assists. Brandon Plummer would be the only one in Orange & Black two register two goals, as they had six different goal scorers in the win. After initially trailing 1-0 after the first period, Tech would turn it up over the next two periods of play, starting with a goal from Michael Dalaly mid-way through the second period. Tech would take a 3-1 lead into the third period after goals from Pavel Svoboda and Plummer. The Warriors would shut out Rochester in the third period, outscoring them 4-0. Connor Funke, Smith, Malik Ali, and Plummer would tally goals in the period. Braedyn Funke made 13 saves in goal for Tech.

On Saturday, Tech would be back at home in the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse. The Warriors would get off to a strong start with three first period goals from Alex Arnold, Francesco Santaniello, and Mason Bazaluk, including the first one just eleven seconds in and the second coming less than two minutes later. The Warriors would also add the first three goals in the second period, courtesy of Avery Smith, Malik Ali, and Kayne Gagner, two of which were shorthanded. Smith would add another before the period ended, as Tech would take a 7-1 lead into the third. Ali, Luke Anderson, and TJ Dougan would add goals in the third period, as Tech would go on to win in a blowout 10-1. Smith would lead the Orange & Black with two goals and four assists, while Ali would finish with two goals and three assists, and Dougan with a goal and three assists, as 14 Warriors would register at least one point in the game. With five total points in the game, Ali would hit the 100-career points milestone. Braedyn Funke would finish with 14 saves in the win for the Warriors in goal.

Indiana Tech now improves to 13-4-0 on the season and 10-2-0 in WHAC play. The Warriors will play Purdue University Northwest in their next game on Tuesday, November 21st at home in the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse at 2:30pm.
