PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Indiana Tech softball team finished their regular season on Saturday afternoon with two wins on the road at Trinity Christian College. The Warriors came into the doubleheader fresh off winning their first every conference regular season championship. Tech dominated the day like they have done all season, not allowing a run over the two games.
Indiana Tech took game one, 7-0, after dominating both sides of the ball. Freshman star pitcher, Savannah Bravo pitched a complete game, one hit, three strikeout, shutout to earn her 14th win of the season. It was the experienced veterans who led the Warriors batting efforts in the game. Senior Bella Brock went two-for-four at the plate with a team leading two RBIs, while graduate student Jordan Dippel went three-for-three at the plate and scored a run. Alyssa Fox had an RBI and scored twice in the game, while Jayme Koning, Kiersten Delaney, and Meagan Barton each had an RBI in the four run fifth inning for the Warriors.
In game two, the Warriors posted their second shutout of the day, winning it 3-0 over the Trolls. Tech scored all three runs in the third inning of the game. Haylee Pruitt hit a two RBI single with the bases loaded to score Maire Trouba and Amanda Parker and then Kennedi Sullivan picked up an RBI on a grounder to second, bringing home Carlye Walter. The three runs in the inning were enough to get it done on the day for the Warriors as freshman dual threat pitcher, Walter, and sophomore Karra Leeger-Capraro combined for the shutout. Walter started the game and went four innings, giving up just two hits and no runs, while throwing four strikeouts. Leeger-Capraro pitched the final three innings, throwing three strikeouts, while also giving up just two hits and no runs. Walter picked up the win, her 13th of the season.
With the pair of wins, Indiana Tech moves to 40-8 overall on the season, the first time they have reached 40 wins in a season. The Warriors will turn their focus onto the WHAC Tournament coming up May 3rd-5th and will enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed after going 18-4 in conference play to be crowned regular season champions for the first time in program history. Tech will take on No. 8 seed Lawrence Tech University (Mich.) in their first game of the double elimination tournament at 4 pm on Wednesday, May 3rd. The Warriors will then play again at 6:30 pm on May 3rd against either No. 4 Madonna or No. 5 Aquinas depending on certain outcomes from the 4 pm games.
