RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team was back in action on Tuesday evening, taking on La Sierra University in the first of two games the Orange and Black will play on the West Coast. Against the Golden Eagles, a strong showing in the second half helped put the Warriors past the hosts, winning 81-69.
Through the opening half, there was very little between the two squads. The first twenty featured four lead changes and four ties, with the largest lead being eight points, held by the hosts at 11:43. Led by
Brady Titus' nine points in the first half and a lay-in with under a minute left from
Blake Davison, the Warriors took a one-point advantage into the break, leading 36-35.
Out of the locker room, Tech started quick, opening the second half on a 12-4 run over the first three minutes to grab their largest lead to that point, 48-39. After trading a few buckets, the Warriors saw their first double-digit advantage of the evening as
Crew Gibson got into the lane for two points in the paint. A long ball from
Nigel Martin with 10:44 left in the half gave Tech a 15-point lead, which would be their largest of the game. Down the stretch, the hosts looked to mount a comeback, cutting the margin to six points, but thirteen points from
Lucas Lyyski, nine points from
Crew Gibson in the second half, and free throws to close the game saw the Warriors take the 81-69 victory.
Lucas Lyyski led all scorers with eighteen points while grabbing nine rebounds.
Brady Titus added fifteen points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Crew Gibson posted fourteen points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Max Perez and
Blake Davison led the side with five assists each.
Tech now sits at 8-3 on the season and remains 6-0 in conference play. The Warriors wrap up their California trip with a matchup against Westcliff University in Irvine, California, on Thursday, December 19, at 6:00 PST.
