FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's hockey team went 3-0 over a three-day span, defeating Aquinas College at home on Thursday in a makeup game from January and sweeping Rochester University on senior day Friday and on the road Saturday.
In game one on Thursday, Tech would defeat the Saints 7-2. The Warriors got out to a 3-2 lead after a high scoring first period thanks to goals from
Pavel Svoboda,
Avery Smith, and
Michael Dalaly. The second and third periods would be all Warriors as they would outscore the Saints 4-0 the rest of the way. Scoring for Tech was
Malik Ali,
Francesco Santaniello,
Aidan Dufort, and
Connor Funke.
Braedyn Funke made 27 saves in the win for the Warriors.
In game two on Friday, the Warriors would hold their senior day prior to puck drop against Rochester. Four seniors would be honored including
Wil Campbell,
Ty Barnhill,
Colton Nikiforuk, and
TJ Dougan. All four players would have a big impact on the game as Tech would blowout Rochester 9-0 in the battle of the Warriors. Nikiforuk would start off the scoring on the powerplay midway through the second period, while also picking up an assist on the Warriors second goal of the game. Dougan would score the eighth goal of the game for Tech late in the third, while Campbell would find his name on the scoresheet twice with two assists. Barnhill would pick up the win and the shutout in goal for The Orange & Black, making eleven saves.
Malik Ali would also shine in the game as he would finish with a hattrick and an assist.
Austin Buck,
Pavel Svoboda,
Connor Funke, and
Luke Anderson would also score in the game.
In the final game of the weekend, the Warriors would face Rochester on Saturday night, taking them down by a whopping 14-2. Tech would score the first six goals of the game with
Alex Arnold picking up a hattrick in under 23 minutes of game time and finishing with five points.
Wil Campbell and
Pavel Svoboda would lead the way for Tech with six points each, while Arnold,
Francesco Santaniello,
Joey Mocnik,
Aidan Dufort, and
Michael Dalaly would all finish with five points in the contest. Overall, 19 Warriors would pick up points in the game, with everyone recording at least two or more.
Mike Melnikov made 12 saves in goal, picking up the win for the Warriors.
Indiana Tech moves to 23-11-0 on the season and wrap up WHAC play at 20-4-0 and regular season champions. The Warriors will head into the WHAC Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed, earning them a first round bye as they await the winner of the four-five place game between Aquinas College and Concordia University on Saturday, February 17
th at 3pm in Dearborn, Michigan.
