ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team traveled to Rochester Hills, Michigan, over the weekend for a conference doubleheader against Rochester University. Tech took both ends of the series with a 9-6 win in game one and an 11-6 win in game two.
Tech got off to a good start offensively in the opener as a double to right from
Eli MacDonald scored
Tyler Stahl and
Ben Morrison to give Tech an early 2-0 lead. Rochester responded immediately, plating two runs in their half of the first inning to level the score. After a pair of scoreless innings, the Orange and Black broke the deadlock as a sacrifice fly from
Quinn Seefeldt started a five-run inning.
Brice Stultz picked up an RBI,
Tyler Stahl added two RBIs, and MacDonald added another to his tally. Rochester pulled two runs back in the bottom half of the fourth. Tech added a run in both the fifth and sixth to extend their lead, 9-4. The hosts scored two runs in the sixth, but Tech's lead was too much to overcome.
Adam Besser picked up the win for Tech, and
Luke Byers came in for the save.
The opening few innings of the second game favored the hosts as their bats were hot, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Defensively, Rochester held Tech scoreless through the first three innings. In the top of the fourth,
Parker Bates got the Warrior offense rolling with a two-run shot to left field, kickstarting four straight innings in which Tech recorded a run. In the fifth, it was Bates again driving in a run, this time with a single to center field. In the top of the sixth, two hits accounted for the Warrior's five runs, as
Patrick McGinn had a two-RBI double, and
Parker Bates drove in another three runs with a double to center. Stahl added to his RBI tally on the day with a two-RBI single in the top of the seventh to stretch Tech's lead to 10-5. After a scoreless eighth inning, Tech was back on the board as
Ben Morrison drove in
Jack Ferguson with a single to right.
Seth Leininger came in to throw 8.1 innings and pick up the win. He allowed four hits, one run, and struck out five.
Up next, the Warriors host Indiana Wesleyan for a single nine-inning game on Tuesday, April 2, starting at 5:00 p.m.
