FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 8 ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team hosted a WHAC Tournament semifinal match against RV Marian University on Thursday evening with the winner advancing to the WHAC Championship game on Saturday. The Warriors are the No. 2 seed in the tournament, earning the right to host the semifinal game, while the Knights of Marian are the No. 3 seed.
The first time these two sides met back on March 30
th at Warrior Athletic Field, it was the Warriors who came out on top in a narrow 12-10 victory. Today's story would be drastically different as the Warriors left no doubt about who was the better side. Tech would open up the game with a 5-0 run and post a 7-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. After Marian scored first goal in the second quarter, the Warriors would shut them out over the next almost 26 minutes of the game. During that time, the Orange & Black would pad their lead with nine more goals, three of which were from freshman phenom
Michelle Farrell. Farrell would score again with one second left to close the third quarter as Tech led 17-3, 15 minutes away from a spot in the championship game. Tech would cruise through the fourth quarter playing conservatively to defend their lead and they would as they would win by a final score of 17-5. Farrell would lead the way for Tech with nine points on five goals and four assists, while also leading the Warriors in ground balls (four) and draw controls (seven).
Faith Donally and
Brooke Buhr would also propel the Warriors offense with six and five points respectively.
Da'zah Regusters would lead the Orange & Black with two caused turnovers, while chipping in four points offensively.
Noelle Ricci would also tally one goal in the contest.
Kat Hoff picked up the win in goal, in what may have been her best performance of the season. The junior from Williston, Vermont made save after save to deny the Knights any chance of getting into the game. Hoff would finish with 15 saves, a new career high, as she moves to 10-0 as a starter.
The Warriors will need Hoff to continue her stellar performances in goal and ride their eight-game win streak as they get set for the WHAC Championship game against the No. 3 ranked and WHAC's No. 1 seeded Lawrence Tech University on Saturday evening. The last time these two teams faced off, it was the Blue Devils who would win it by a score of 19-7. The Warriors will travel to Southfield, Michigan in a chance for redemption against Lawrence Tech and seeking their first WHAC Tournament Title since 2019 with an automatic bid to the National Tournament on the line as well. The championship game is set for 5pm on Saturday, April 20
