Blue Devils Spoil Men’s Hockey Senior Day in Regular Season Finale Series Split

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #14 ranked Indiana Tech Men's hockey team split with Lawrence Tech this past weekend for their last regular season games, winning 2-1 on Friday on the road, and losing 2-3 on Saturday at home while celebrating their seniors. Five members of the team would be honored on senior day, including Alex Carrothers, Joey Fata, Brandon Plummer, Alex Arnold, and Braedyn Funke.

In game one, the Warriors took the lead in the second period when Alex Arnold found the back of the net at 3:05, assisted by Francesco Santaniello and Malik Ali. Lawrence Tech tied it up in the 3rd period, but the Warriors responded at 14:50 when Brandon Plummer delivered the game-winner, assisted by Luke Anderson and Ethan Dominy giving the Warriors the 2-1 win on the road. Goaltender Braedyn Funke played a total of 60 minutes, saving 24 shots. 

In game two, the scoring opened in the first period when Lawrence Tech scored at 11:08, giving them a 1-0 lead. The Warriors responded early in the second period as Michael Dalaly netted the equalizer at 2:07, assisted by Alex Arnold and Mason Bazaluk. The Warriors then took the lead on the power play at 17:19 when Arnold scored with assists from Connor Funke and Austin Buck, making it 2-1. Lawrence fought back in the third period with a power-play goal of their own, tying the game at 2-2. The game-winner came at 11:58, as Lawrence Tech found the back of the net, sealing the 3-2 victory for the Blue Devils and hand the Warriors their first conference loss of the season. Senior goaltender Braedyn Funke played his last regular season home game as a Warrior, playing a total of 58 minutes and 8 seconds in goal, saving a total of 18 shots. 

The Warriors now sit at 26-4-0 overall and finish conference play with a 23-1-0 record and a fifth straight regular season WHAC Championship. Tech will be back in action this weekend for their WHAC playoff tournament, hosting at home at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Being the top seed, the Warriors will get a bye through the first round on Friday and will play in the first semi-final game on Saturday, February 22nd at 3pm. The championship game is scheduled for 1pm on Sunday, February 23rd.
