LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team battled on day two of the WHAC Tournament that moved to the campus of Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan after weather postponed Thursday's games in Sylvania, Ohio.
To start the day, Tech would play #7 seed Aquinas College in an elimination game. The first three innings would finish scoreless as
Carlye Walter would hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning to break the deadlock, putting the Warriors ahead 1-0. Tech added two more runs in the fifth inning after they loaded the bases, and
Victoria Boyer was hit by a pitch and Walter picked up a walk bringing home
Maire Trouba and
Melissa Cabrera. In the sixth inning, Trouba hit an RBI triple to score
Kaelie Kugler and
Allison Davis hit an RBI single bringing home Trouba to make it 5-0 Warriors. Tech would be unscathed in the seventh inning as
Savannah Bravo would close out a dominant day in the circle and help the Warriors move on to the next round. Bravo would finish the game with 7.0 innings pitched and ten strikeouts, allowing no runs and just five hits.
After defeating Aquinas, Tech would then face #2 seed Cornerstone University in the semifinal round of the loser's bracket, where the Golden Eagles would squeak by with some late inning heroics to win 4-3 and eliminating the Warriors from the tournament. Cornerstone would go up 1-0 in the first, but Tech would tie the game in the third inning, before adding runs in the fourth and fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead. However, the Golden Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead by one. The Warriors would be unable to muster any more offense in the final two innings and would ultimately fall 3-4.
Kaelie Kugler picked up two hits and scored two runs in the game for the Orange & Black, while
Bella Brock had one RBI.
Carlye Walter was in the circle for the Warriors and finished with a line of 6.0 innings pitched, two strikeouts, six hits allowed, four runs and three earned runs allowed.
Tech closes the season after a WHAC Tournament semifinal appearance with a 30-16 overall record and a 16-8 conference record that saw them finish fourth in the regular season WHAC standings.
