GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team continued the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday and Saturday as they rolled through days three and four of the event with three wins. After getting knocked into the losers bracket on Thursday by the Concordia Cardinals, the Orange and Black have responded with wins over Aquinas, 10-0, and Concordia, 2-0, to get to the Tournament Final, and took down Northwestern Ohio 9-5 to force one final winner-takes-all game on Monday.
On Friday, Tech played one game, taking on the No. 4-seeded Aquinas Saints. Tech's offense was hot, scoring ten runs in the contest, while the Warriors' defense was stout.
Coley Stevens and Kade Plank combined for a shutout, with Stevens earning the win and Plank picking up the save. Tech's offense was led by
Brycen Hannah and
Ben Morrison, who would go three for five, while Hannah added four RBIs and Morrison added two.
The battle against the 2-seeded Cardinals was a low-scoring affair that would favor the Warriors. Tech got on the board first with a single from
Jaden Miller that would score Jack Fergson in the second inning. After two scoreless innings, the Warriors would add another to their tally as
Jordan Malott singled into left to score
Alex Watkins. Tech pitched their second straight shutout, this time with a complete game from
Grant Besser, who allowed zero runs on seven hits, walked two, and struck out 11 of the 34 batters he faced.
In the Championship against the University of Northwestern Ohio, the Warriors started strong, scoring four runs in the top of the second inning. The racers would cut that lead in half across the next two innings as they scored one run in each of the third and fourth innings. Tech answered in the fifth, stretching their lead back to four with a two-run frame. After a scoreless sixth and seventh, the Racers drew one back in the bottom half of the eighth to make it 6-3. In the ninth, the Warriors would add three more insurance runs while the Racers were held to two for a 9-5 final.
Kade Robinson earned the win on the mound for the Warriors, throwing 4.1 innings, while
Danny May picked up the save.
Garrett Rainey led the team in hits, going three for five, while
Jaden Miller led the side in RBIs with six.
With the win over the Racers, the Warriors force a winner-takes-all matchup to determine the tournament winner. Tech will travel to Lima, Ohio, on Monday afternoon to take on the Racers at the Racer Baseball Field with first pitch set for noon.
